Couples, best friends, and family rejoice, as we are excited to announce that Valentine’s Day has arrived!
Every February 14th, love of all kinds is spread across the world. It truly is a special moment to enjoy, yet many of us do so without understanding its background. Here’s the history behind the beloved holiday that we often don’t take the time to think about.
Valentine’s Day, also known as the Feast of Saint Valentine, is a holiday celebrated on February 14th where lovers exhibit their shared affections through quality time and gifts. The tradition emerged from a Christian feast day honoring a martyr named Saint Valentine. The folk traditions that emerged later trickled down into what we know today: the widespread cultural, religious and commercial celebration of romance and love. Although how and why we celebrate Valentine’s day is vastly different from before, it’s hard to pinpoint its exact origins because of the various Saint Valentine’s associated with February 14th, as well as the amount of martyrdom stories connected to them.
In preparation for this Valentine’s Day, William Cullen Bryant high school has offered a sale of teddy bears, roses, and candy available from Wednesday, February 12th to Thursday, February 13th. The sale has been available in the Bryant cafe in all lunch periods for students to anonymously deliver to others. Once ordered, students receive their designated gifts throughout the day on February 14th.
We hope all of you enjoy this lovely time of the year!
