Black History Month Celebration

Black+History+Month+Celebration

For Black History Month, Bryant hosted a celebration on Thursday, the last day of February, in the cafeteria, where they had fun activities such as bracelet making, board games, and more. The event started at 2:30 PM and ended at 3:30 PM.

At the entry, students were greeted by staff members who kindly asked students to scan the QR code; after that you are free to explore the event. At the front, there was a station where you could get yogurt and two fruits of your choice. Grapes, apples, and kiwi were a few of the options you could get.

For music we had the Bryant Band Students play for us and a mix of actual songs like “AMERICA HAS A PROBLEM” by Beyoncé & “Only Girl” by Rihanna. While listening to the music playing, you could play some board games, such as dominoes and Sorry!. The next station had bingo sheets for you and your friends to play, where you would listen in to any common phrases said in those songs. In every station, you would find a small piece of paper filled with fun facts about black history and when collecting all 5, you get a small snack they had on display, like chips and chocolate. They were also giving out free pins/stickers that showed empowering people of color.

One of the three most fun stations was the bracelet making section, where you were given a small white string to fill with any beads of your choice. Beads like ileke, jigida, and giri-giri, African beads were given. And if you didn’t want to make them, they had some ready for you to take in a small plastic bag. Or you could have gotten a pedicure by a friend or done by yourself. Lastly, the 3rd best was the coloring station, which had many pages to color, mainly drawing of people of color, with the many markers that they provided.

But the main stars of the show were the dance company and the cheerleaders performance, both wearing full black and performing in the center of the event, with their synchronized dance and dancing to songs like “Rude Boy” by Rihanna and  “I Like It” Cardi B.

While walking around, station by station, staff were walking around with cups of drinks and some sweet bread to anyone who wanted to try them. But the actual food section was filled with buffalo chicken, mac and cheese, salad, cooked plantain, and more.
